This week on The Queer Life radio show feature real trans people and we’re interviewing Diva Berry, a trans woman giving us a brief glimpse into her life. Here is a brief bio:

I was born in 1961, in Los Angeles. I knew at the age of 6 that I was gay. Growing up in a very religious home was not easy but somehow I got through it. My father was an alcoholic and my step mother was very religious. I love going to church but I also knew that I was gay and I was in a church that did not condone homosexuality.

As a gay boy my family accepted me but when i chose to live my life as the woman I am at age 27 all hell broke loose. The majority of my family disowned me and my friends at the time didn’t understand the transition. After a few years I chose drugs, namely crack, to deal with my feeling of loneliness. I did drugs from 1987 to 1997. I had to realize that if I was to succeed I had to love myself. In 2000 I fell in love with a man and we moved to Northern California.

That relationship only lasted a couple of months but I refused to be defeated. So I went to a shelter and from the shelter I went to transitional living where I got a job driving busses.

Since moving to Northern California my life has changed for the better. I just want to encourage everybody the day bisexual straight homo sexual transgender A sexual or whatever lol. life is worth living but the first thing we have to do is learn to love ourselves. Right now I don’t have a love interest but I know he’ll be there soon enough.

I’m okay with the fact that the majority of my family does not like my lifestyle. I don’t need anyone’s vindication! I love myself and I love myself immensely!

I do a lot of volunteer work something I’ve done since I moved up here. I’ve gotten my credit score from 0 to 840. So many people told me that I couldn’t get where I am that they would never hire a transgender and that with a felony on my record I couldn’t vote or have an apartment. I’m here to tell people that’s a lie you can do anything you set your heart to. God is love and love is for everyone!

Thanks for listening!
